Steps of an Election in USA | Election 2016

Hey everyone! Shiela here and welcome to Election
101. Today we’re going to discuss the stages of a presidental election. Alright, so here we go. Let’s break it down
into steps. Step 1: A candidate announces that he or she is running for office. And
usually declares whether they will be running as a Democrat, or running as a Republican. Step 2: The candidates campaign against other
candidates in their own party so that they can win the primary election. Step 3: Primary elections are held. Republicans
vote for a republican candidate to represent them, and Democrats vote for a democratic
candidate to represent them. Step 4: Party political conventions are held.
Each party has a week long convention to announce their candidates for President and for Vice
President. Step 5: Candidates campaign this time to win
votes for the general election against their opponent in a different party. Step 6: The general election is held. People
vote for who they would like to win presidency. Step 7: The electoral college, which I’ll
explain in more detail in another video, casts its votes for each state. And lastly, step
8. The inaugeration is held on January 20th, and the new president is sworn into office. I hope this helps clear things up a little bit for you guys. If you have any comments
