Another Democrat enters U.S. Senate race after campaign-related fatal accident

a new candidate is entering Montana's US Senate contest today a Democrat who intends to challenge Republican incumbent Steve Daines but as MTN's mike dissin reports this candidate had to face a terrible tragedy related to his campaign before deciding ultimately to get into the race the US Navy veteran John Muse was preparing for an underwater campaign shoot on Canyon Ferry Lake last month when a fellow diver got in trouble in the water views jumped in the lake to try to save 40 year-old Jesse Hubbell of Massachusetts but to no avail and almost drowned himself I tried to save him to the point I passed out in the water and my wife in fact dove in the water and pushed me to the boat other folks pulled me onto the boat she then took my goggles off after I started to come to I was quite blue in the face put the goggles on and she dove in the water and tried to save the other gentleman mu says he thought then he probably would not continue the campaign but that others urged him to remain his one friend put it Montana families are no stranger to tragedy and they find a way to carry on Muse grew up in Deer Lodge Helena and Wolf Point attended the u.s. Naval Academy and also has a master's in business administration from the London Business School he's worked as a high school teacher on the Fort Belknap any reservation and an engineer for an international oil company he and his wife have a small ranch near Loma North our Fort Benton mu says Danes has a terrible voting record for Montana including what he called a massive giveaway to multinational corporations the 2017 federal tax cut bill when Steve Daines voted for a massive tax cut on multinational corporations and America's wealthiest families one of the biggest beneficiaries of that was foreign investors but what happened that tax cut blew a multitrillion-dollar hole through the nation's pocketbook he also called danes a yes-man for an erratic president and said the country needs investment in infrastructure better teacher salaries and action to combat climate change but Muir is a first-time candidate also the Democratic primary opponent in the Senate race Helena mayor Wilmont Collins news cause Collins a good man with a good story to tell but he says he's happy to let primary voters decide who has the better qualifications to take on senator danes next fall reporting from Helena Mike Dennison MTN news and a spokesman for Senator Dean says he looks forward to having thoughtful conversations in the campaign on how to protect good-paying jobs and our Montana way of life
