SEE YOU AGAIN.>>GOOD TO SEE YOU, STEPHEN.>>Stephen: ALWAYS GOOD TO
HAVE YOU ON A LIVE DEBATE NIGHT. I WANT TO REMIND YOU, ALEX, OF
SOMETHING YOU SAID LAST TIME YOU WERE HERE. YOU SAID, “DEMS EAT THEIR OWN.”>>YEAH.>>Stephen: IN THE PRIMARY.>>YEAH.>>Stephen: OKAY, WHO WAS ON
THE MENU TONIGHT?>>I MEAN, I THINK OVERALL
PEOPLE– PEOPLE’S APPETITES WERE NOT AS ROBUST AS THEY COULD HAVE
BEEN. BUT I DO THINK YOU SAW MAYOR
PETE TAKE SOME INCOMING FIRE, IN LARGE PARENT BECAUSE OF POLLS
HAVE HIM UP IN IOWA AND NEW HAMPSHIRE, AND THAT’S A THREAT
TO THE REST OF THE FIELD. ELIZABETH WARREN, SURPRISINGLY,
DID NOT GET MUCH IN THE WAY OF INCOMING FIRE, WHICH I THINK IS
A TESTAMENT TO THE FACT THAT DEMOCRATS ARE FEELING LIKE
PERHAPS SHE WON’T BE THE NOMINEE. BUT IN TERMS OF OUTRIGHT
CANNIBALIZATION AND THE FEECHTING ON OTHER EYEBALLS, WE
REALLY DIDN’T SEE IT THAT MUCH TONIGHT.>>THEY’RE LEAVING THAT TO THE
TRUMP WHITE HOUSE, THE CANNIBALIZATION THING. THE EATING OF THEIR OWN.>>Stephen: BUT THERE WAS A
LITTLE– THERE WERE SOME SPARKS OUT THERE TONIGHT. WHO– WHO DID MIX IT UP A LITTLE
BIT TONIGHT?>>I MEAN, WELL, THERE WERE
WEIRD, ODD BEDFELLOWS, LIKE TOM STEYER AND JOE BIDEN GOING AFTER
EACH OTHER. TULSI GABBARD WAS, LIKE,
YOSEMITE SAM IN A WHITE PANTSUIT KIND OF, LIKE, AIMING HER FIRE

OFF AFTER THIS. ISN’T THAT ILLEGAL? ISN’T THAT ILLEGAL TO SAY VOTE
FOR ME AND I’LL GIVE YOU $1,000.>>IT’S DONALD TRUMP’S AMERICA,
STEPHEN.>>Stephen: WHO HAD THE BEST
NIGHT, IN YOUR OPINION, HEILMAN?>>IN A WEIRD WAY, I THINK THE
TWO CANDIDATES, ELIZABETH WARREN AND PETE BUTTIGIEG, PETE
BUTTIGIEG ON THE RISE IN IOWA AND ON THE RISE IN NEW
HAMPSHIRE, AND ALTHOUGH HE TOOK SOME INCOMING TONIGHT, NOTHING
REALLY HAPPENED TO HALT HIS MOMENTUM GOING FORWARD. I THINK THE BUTTIGIEG PEOPLE
WALK OUT THINKING THEY HAD A REASONABLY GOOD NIGHT. CAM WHAT HARRIS HAD A FEW
MOMENTS AND IF YOU’RE A CANDIDATE UNDER 5%, YOU’RE LOOK
FOR MOMENTS. AND SHE HAD A COUPLE STRONG
MOMENTS. AND CORY BOOKER, IF YOU THINK
ABOUT HOW THESE DEBATES ARE CONSUMED, WHICH IS ENDLESSLY IN
THE INFINITE LOOP ON CABLE TOMORROW, THE THING YOU PLAYED
EARLIER, CORY BOOKER GOING AFTER JOE BIDEN ON POT WILL GET SOME
PLAY BECAUSE YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT WEED. AND THEN YOU HAVE BIDEN
STUMBLING INTO– WHICH IS A POPULAR TOPIC, AT LEAST IN MY
HOUSEHOLD– ACTUALLY, IN MY OFFICE. AND THEN HE MADE A MISTAKE ON A
SUBJECT WHICH ALWAYS GETS A LOT OF TRACTION, RACE. WHEN JOE BIDEN MADE THE MISTAKE
SAYING THERE WAS ONLY ONE AFRICAN AMERICAN FEMALE SENATOR
BEFORE STANDING NEXT TO KAMALA HARRIS ON THE STAGE, IT IS NOT A
GOOD THING WHEN YOUR POLITICAL STRENGTH– IF YOU’RE A
FRONT-RUNNER– AND JOE BIDEN STILL THINKS HE IS– IT’S BUILT
ON THE BACKS OF AFRICAN AMERICAN SUPPORT. TO BE ON THE DEBATE STAGE AND
BEING OPENLY MOCKED BY THE TWO AFRICAN AMERICAN CANDIDATES IS
NOT A GREAT PLACE TO BE. AND I THINK THAT FOR BOOKER AND
HARRIS WILL REBOUND FOR THEIR BENEFIT, OR AT LEAST THEY HOPE
IT WILL.>>Stephen: IF I GOT THIS
RIGHT, WHEN BUTTIGIEG WAS ON “THE CIRCUS”, HE SAID HE THOUGHT
IT WAS GOING TO COME DOWN TO HIM AND ELIZABETH WARREN. WHAT IS THAT BASED ON?>>WELL, I THINK, FIRST OF ALL,
THERE’S GOOD POLLING TO SUPPORT, THAT RIGHT? I MEAN, THEY ARE AHEAD AND HE
HAS GOOD INTEL ON THAT FRONT. BUT I THINK IT SPEAKS TO A
LARGER TRUTH ABOUT THIS RACE. THERE IS AN INTRA-PARTY WAR THAT
IS QUIETLY HAPPENING THAT WE ARE NOT PERHAPS ATTUNED TO BETWEEN
THE MODERATE WING OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY AND THE
PROGRESSIVE WING OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. AND– AND THE ISSUE ABOUT WHICH
KIND OF CANDIDATE IS BEST SUIT TO LEAD THE PARTY IN 2020 IS
VERY UNRESOLVEED. AND IF ANYTHING, I THINK THAT
THAT WILL PROPEL THIS RACE MUCH LONGER THAN DEMOCRATIC VOTERS
WOULD PERHAPS LIKE IT TO.>>Stephen: DO YOU THINK OBAMA
COMING OUT AND SAYING DON’T GO TOO CRAZY, DON’T GO TOO LEFT. AMERICANS DON’T REALLY LIKE HUGE
CHANGE. DO YOU THINK THAT’S GOING TO
HAVE EFFECT ON THE CANDIDATES’ STRATEGY? BECAUSE OBAMA’S ENDORSEMENT OR
OBAMA’S BLESSING IS GOING TO BE ENORMOUS TO THESE PEOPLE.>>IT IS, ALTHOUGH, THERE’S NO
WORLD IN WHICH BARACK OBAMA IS GOING TO ENDORSE ANY OF THESE
CANDIDATES IN A DEMOCRATIC NOMINATION FIGHT. BUT THERE IS THE CASE THAT THERE
IS ALREADY A WIDESPREAD SENSE OF PANIC AMONG ESTABLISHMENT
CANDIDATES WITHIN IN IF YOU SWING A DEAD CAPT VICINITY OF
THIS THEATER, IF YOU COULD HIT, YOU KNOW, 5,000 DEMOCRATIC
DONORS WHO ARE ALL, LIKE, GOING MENTALLY– THEY’RE UNHINGED,
UNBALANCED OVER THE PROSPECT THAT ELIZABETH WARREN OR BERNIE
SANDERS COULD BE THE NOMINEE BECAUSE THEY COULD LOSE A LOT OF
MONEY IN THAT SITUATION AND THEY THINK THEY COULD LOSE WANT
ELECTION. THERE IS ALREADY PAN AND I CAN
THEY’RE LOOK FOR SOMEBODY TO GUIDE THE PARENT BACK TO THE
MIDDLE. OBAMA’S WORDS IS SOMETHING TO
CLING TO BECAUSE THE PRESIDENT BASICALLY SEEMS TO BE SAYING,
ELIZABETH WARREN AND BERNIE SANDERS, AN UNSUBTLE SHOT AT
THOSE TWO CANDIDACIES. PETE’S COMMENTS WERE PRESCIENT. HE GOT A LOT OF FLACK FOR IT
SAYING IT WOULD BE A TWO-PERSON RACE. A COUPLE OF WEEKS AFTER, THAT HE
TOOK THE LEAD IN IOWA AND NOW IT LOOKS LIKE HE MIGHT BE IN THE
LEAD IN NEW HAMPSHIRE. IF THERE IS A MODERATE WING AND
MORE PROGRESSIVE WING, THERE IS A BARACK OBAMA BRING EVERYBODY
TOGETHER LIGHTS ALL GET ALONG THE UNITY WING. AND THERE IS THE ITCHY AND
SCRATCHY AND FIRE DEPARTMENT-FIGHT-FIGHT WING. AND THE FIGHT-FIGHT-FIGHT WING
IS BERNIE SANDERS AND ELIZABETH WARREN.>>Stephen: WE HAVE TO GO TO
COMMERCIAL. I WANT TO POINT OUT IT’S 75 DAYS
UNTIL IOWA. AND AT THIS POINT IN 2004, THE
LEADER WAS, OF COURSE, FUTURE PRESIDENT DICK GEPHARDT.( LAUGHTER )
WE’LL BE RIGHT BACK WITH MORE WITH JOHN HEILEMANN AND ALEX
WAGNER FROM SHOWTIME’S “THE CIRCUS.” WE’RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT THE

Author Since: Mar 11, 2019

  1. When is Yang Paying out his $1000 / month? So far I've only seen three notable, cherry-picked recipients announced? Didn't he promise 10 recipients?

  2. Everyone is afraid of Elizabeth & Bernie…… YES, you should be VERY afraid!!! People are tired of rich people controlling everything.

  3. I'm not an American and i don't understand why the Dems don't pick someone from their party and just get behind them. Every time a candidate is attacked in these debates is just future ammunition for Trump.

  4. I'll take progressivism over Centrism any day… because Progressives are looking after the people.. not those who make 50 billion dollars and more..

  5. Keep ignoring Bernie, what you don't realise is that he has the bighest following and the more you keep throwing Pete and Warren in peoples faces the more stupid they will look when they lose. Bernie beat Hilary and would have been president in 2016 as people felt they had no choice but to vote bloody Trump

  6. If we want change from how it's been since Trump's been in office then Pete buttigieg is not who you want he's more of the same at least the African Americans have it rightand he has no support from them now everybody else needs to get on board with that as well.

  7. Buttigieg's surge in two states is because he dumped all his cash in those two early races. He's praying he wins and gets the early bird bonus. If he doesn't, he's through because he can't get that kind of money again. Many of his donors are maxed out, meaning he will need new donors, which he won't get without a win. He's put all his chips on black, essentially.

  8. The rich want things to stay the same is basically what this guy is saying. We need to push for Warren or Bernie, they're the only ones that will change anything!

  9. Bernie had a great performance! He touched more on foreign affairs and honestly he is signaling to me and everyone else that he is in this for the long haul and is prepared to take on one of the biggest responsibilities of the Executive Branch which is Foreign Policy in a humane yet thoughtful way with the consistency of his record to back up what he says!
    #Bernie2020

  10. Hey stephen. people are going hungry and without shelter and they need yang's freedom dividend/$1k per month. meanwhile you are jet setting to new zealand. keep making light. yang2020.com/policies humanity first and fuck the elites

  11. Don't mess with the Yangstas Stephen they don't mess around. If you dare say you're not going to vote for him it's over.😂

  12. The Democrat problem is believing Americans don't want too big a change. That is how Trump got elected! Voting for Biden is the same as voting for Hillary. Bernie is a posative change. It is unbelievable how hard it is to try and drag the US into a developed country standard of living. You actually deserve 4 more years of Trump if you vote for Biden.

  13. Major props to Bernie for being the ONLY candidate to mention (or care) about the plight of the Palestinians! I hope Rashida, Ilhan, and Linda Sarsour are able to get him to evolve on BDS, which is the genuine progressive position. #MakeIsraelPalestineAgain

  14. So little mention of Bernie. So Obvious.!! Why so much talk about Buttegieg. He is nowhere near the lead. Sanders and Warren are clearly leading.

  15. Don't disguise it. It's not progressive side is radical side. It's moderates and radicals fighting this fight on the Dems side. If they are smart they will see what happened on the other side were the radical right won the fight. How is that working for them, or for America in any case?

  16. We need democrats to fight like Bernie Sanders. I don't want another "let's compromise" president like Obama that lied about the shit they'd do only to get in office. I want everyone in this country to be able to get healthcare without going bankrupt, so don't fucking comprises with the assholes who only want that for rich people. Getting it so that's true for only the upper middle class and higher isn't fucking good enough, and at this point you're a piece of shit if you think it is.

  17. Bernie is the ONLY one who has not already been bought and paid for by billionaires. When billionaires buy servants, they expect services.

  18. These two are out of touch. Can they not see that we're desperate for a fighter on the Democratic side? What kind of President do they think FDR was? It's that bad and only someone that focused will be able to recover from Trump. Nothing less than our national identity as a democracy is at stake. I want no part in a nation where Trump has any lasting impact. Period.

  19. Why is it a bold statement to say: It's okay to be rich? Isn't America the country of big dreamers? Indeed, the American Dream is all about making it big.

  20. Isn't that funny the president that ran on Hope and change and didn't deliver on change. He didn't prosecute the bankers that collapsed our economy in 2008. Why because the minute he was out of office Obama went and gave speeches for $400,000 a pop on Wall Street. Why would he want to change a system that's making him rich.

  21. Andrew Yang tells it like what it is. Tom Steyer did a lot for voter turnout and Trump opposition. Can't blame him for spending his own money for that. One problem is he would definitely cozy up with Dem Establishment. He is not there to challenge the status quo. he wasn't truthful on stage for example he wasn't the one talking about the congressional term limits first and worse he claimed he is the Only One on stage to advocate the congressional term limits. He is not there for the unity, he claimed he doesn't need to swing Republican voters. He just conveniently ripped a core policy out of Yang 2020. Andrew Yang's plan is far more nuanced and comprehensive by people powered 💰, democracy Dollars rank choice voting and congressional term limits and lobbying restrictions ban speaking fees and other payback corruptions swamped the DC for decades. Capitalism starts $1000 per month for all u.s. citizens over age of 18 is not a freaking bribe, Colbert. These pundits and conMedians get rich by living on the Huge Welfare provided by the Wall Street, Big Pharma, Military Industrial complex backed Washington establishment to go against the will of the American people, to undermine true democracy. They are thriving for doing the hit job.

  22. if you gave tax breaks to rich tv hosts you are just a good politician creating jobs. if you promise to gave money to regular americans, you are bribing. but bribes to politicians are just donations. the inverted world of MSM in US. it is funny how US ranks lower on corruption because they just legalized bribes.

  23. Let's Bring This Controversial Subject Matter Up More Often. Let's Really Discuss It. Let's fight, haggle and debate. Let's get record numbers of Young Americans to Vote.

  24. ALEX, we don't kill them on the internet. We YANG them.

Is it illegal for candidates to bribe voters with free college and free healthcare STEVEN?

  25. No tie for Andrew Yang because he not tied to CBS like you Steven. CBS makes you wear the tie so they can tighten it when your out of line. #YangGang

  26. I think the so called establishment is pushing a certain narrative to discourage the voters from backing 'progressive' candidates; the progressive s are the menu, just more subtly done

  27. I am not sure Bernie will ever get the coverage that he deserves. The pharmaceutical companies are MAJOR advertisers on all of these major stations. They have the power and pressure to not support Bernie. They do not want him to be the candidate and they are willing to spend millions to not have him get elected. It stinks for the American people that they have so much control.

  28. Very happy to see so many here calling out the corporate whores (sorry, Stephen) for ignoring and dismissing Bernie. He has the largest number of donors with the smallest donations–the only man of the people. He is winning, but you'd never know it–this is an open conspiracy. Very disappointed in Colbert. He's very, very rich now–what hold can corporate America possibly have over him? Or is he afraid of paying taxes? Or does he just like the status quo? In any case, just like with pseudoliberal Bill Maher, I can't watch him anymore. Maybe that's how we stop this conspiracy-hit em where it hurts by not tuning in. One month, shit, one week and they'd fold, just like with the general strike we are all going to have to participate in when the 2020 election is openly hijacked by our corporate masters.

And, oh yeah, Buttigieg is the devil, the corporatist most loved by dark money because he's young, handsome, gay…and a most willing & subservient tool for the Owners.

Check out Kristal Ball (the Hill) and Sam Seder (Majority Report) for more on this widespread conspiracy.

  29. Obama has disappointed by coming up short of expectations for nine or so of the past eleven years and the latest caution about going too far left is no exception. Obama beat Hillary by saying he was going farther left than her. Bill Clinton was a left darling. Neither Clinton nor Obama lived up to their hype. The candidate with a proven track record of being progressive left is Bernie Sanders. Warren keeps shifting core ground, indicating a lack of solid ideals. Unlike almost every other candidate, Bernie will not be corrupted from his goal of truly serving the American people. Simply stated, any candidate taking money from somebody other than a potential constituent is going to be corrupted. The candidate most like Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg ran in 2016 and she is not President. Make the mistake again and the voters who came out to flip the House will stay away from the polls and there goes the chance to flip the Senate too and possibly keep the House and if that happens woe be to the country under the unchecked lawlessness of the impeached but unconvicted baby elephant in the White House.

  30. Buttigieg put all his chips into Iowa, since he thinks it's impressive to mainstream news and pundits, which evidently turns out to be as fruitful as it is shallow… now that everybody kinda has a feeling that Biden's ship is heading for the bottom of the black sea, they're looking for the next establishment candidate to hang their hopes on, willfully disregarding that Mayor Pete is also damaged goods, in addition to any lessons that should have been learned from 2016 about running a centrist establishmentarian against a deranged populist…

  31. Progressive or dems will loose the election. We do not need an 80's republican, which is where the centrists of the party are.

  32. I thought everyone was always shitting on Cory Booker for being in the pocket of big pharma? They sure wouldn't be happy to see him advocate for legalisation of weed… That'll cut into their profits guaranteed.

  33. Bernie Sanders is the true people candidate. You just need look to his donation map to see that the majority of the country supports him more than any other candidate.

  34. Bernie has the most individual donors of any campaign ever. He is, by far, our best shot. Stop ignoring his incredible force and momenteum. At this point it's just so obvious that you're not listening to the American people.

  35. She said it herself, they're out of tune, they dont have a clue, the issues are clear but for them it's just a label, moderate vs progressive, which should mean fair vs right to gouge your eyes

  36. People who argue against Dems critiquing each other are quite literally too stupid to do political commentary.

It's a fucking primary. The entire point is to decide who is the best candidate to win, and to do that the flaws of the ones not in that position need to be exposed.

Funny how the people who feel that way always support the most flawed candidates too…

  37. I would have loved to see how Yang would have handled attacks if he was leading in polls. I do know a couple of the other candidates actually really like him, he is very hard to go after which is why no one has yet. #YangGang! Also, no, we do not go out and destroy people when you say bad things about him, but we will use all of the real facts, studies, and research to prove that his solutions will work until we turn you into one of us. 😛

  38. Candidates still on my list: warren, yang, sanders, booker, buttigieg. Biden is slipping in his age, and just isn’t as sharp as he once was. Harris was my favorite at first, but now she’s playing the part of “dems eat their own.” I don’t like it. I like Gabbard, but not for president. I think she should quit politics and go into activism. Klobuchar is just boring. And if I didn’t mention them, they don’t even really matter.

  39. I am gonna put this out there: Obama sucks! Considering what he had, he achieved very little. He did nothing for police reforms nor for fixing problems like inequality, his healthcare program was just okay and stolen from others, and he strengthened centrists and wealthy donors in the party, and the list goes on. Listen people – just because he was a Democrat and better than Trump does not mean he was great! Obama has actively campaigned against progressives in the party throughout his political career – even before he became President. Alex Wagner is right – there IS a massive war happening inside the party, even if people are not attuned to it. Its been happening for years. And despite all the sustained and concerted efforts of the likes of Hillary, Obama, Biden, Schumer and Pelosi (among others), the progressives have continued to make gains in the party. If you think that the centrists will win you the election, you are SO wrong. The centrists will lose the election if they win the primary and there is NO WAY they will win the primaries without the kind of dirty tactics they used back in 2016!

  40. No mention last night that Mayor Pete's website had to remove a stock photo of a Kenyan woman, three names of prominent African American politicians and a list of 500 African American supporters was half white! The moderator mentions the photo but nothing else! Shameless!

  41. I think it is crazy that more White people back Bernie than Black people. I do not understand why Black people like Biden and think he's gonna win. BIDEN – the guy who created several crime bills that resulted in mass incarceration in the country! BIDEN, who worked closely with and was best friends with several segregationists. BIDEN who worked hard against all issues that matter to Black people. BIDEN who continues to defend and double down on his record. And all Black folks have to say is that "Oh but Bernie and the others also voted for the anti-crime bills". Bernie voted for some bills because of a special tactic used by Republicans and centrist Democrats. They would lump things together and have some good things inside the bill that Bernie and the progressives wanted and force the bill through. Bernie has defended civil rights and worked in the civil rights movement for 60 years. He was against the so-called 'hard-on-crime' laws that resulted in mass incarceration and urged passing police reforms before anyone else did. He raised his voice for Flint and other places when no one would say anything. All things considered, Bernie has done more for Black people than anyone in the party! #Bernie2020

  42. Honestly, to think that Sanders and Warren are "too progressive" is utterly ludicrous. If anything, they are the most centre, normal, sensible and current candidates in our times. Do these critics of Sanders and Warren etc. even understand the current state of the world and its potential? Or do they only see some party ideological bubble they are sleep-walking in, out of touch with the actuality? Obama and Biden are dinosaurs and belong to the past. And While Obama was the president for eight years during which he had a great chance to become what he promised he would, he mostly served the neoliberal capitalist interests instead of those of the society. And now with his recent comments he's proven himself to be one of the last people we should listen to in regards to what's good for the society and the planet.

  43. The framing here is insane. I generally like the coverage of the show, but to not even mention Sanders' success shows the biases at play during this segment. Really easy to notice if you are paying attention.

  44. Democrat Presidential Candidate Pat Paulsen said, "To get to the meat of the matter, I will come right to the point and take note of the FACT that the heart of the issue in the final analysis escapes me".

  45. OMG ! nobody attacked pete like they could have, just push on how us plan wasn't endorsed by the people it said and most of them were white ……… such an easy target
